Washington, DC – December 27, 2021 – The SmarterSafer Coalition issued the following statement in response to President Biden signing the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) into law, establishing key climate change resiliency measures within the Department of Defense:
“The passage of the NDAA welcomes in a new era for the Department of Defense (DOD), with expectations and guidelines for climate change-resilient infrastructure that is crucial to military readiness.
SmarterSafer has long been an advocate for the allocation of funds to build weather-resistant infrastructure and to incorporate climate risk into the military decision-making process. Climate change adaptation and risk assessment is a key practice in effective military strategy.
With the passage of the NDAA, SmarterSafer encourages a continuation of open dialogue into additional policies and amendments that further the future of climate resiliency, adaptation, and mitigation within the Department of Defense. This is a great win in the fight against climate change and it’s time to get to work.”
With the NDAA becoming law, a fiscally and environmentally conscious Department of Defense is on the horizon.
